For Today –

When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or

situation—some fact of my life—unacceptable to me, and I can find no

serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being

exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment.

For Today --

Moments of perception can build into a lifetime of  spiritual serenity,

as I have excellent reason to know. Roots of reality, supplanting the

neurotic underbrush, will hold fast despite the high winds of the forces

which would destroy us, or which we would use to destroy ourselves.

For Today --

Sometimes we need to place love ahead of indiscriminate `factual honesty'.

We cannot, under the guise of `perfect honesty', cruelly and unnecessarily

hurt others. Always one must ask, “What is the best and most loving thing I

can do?”

It takes a village, idiot

It takes a village to get a person clean, sober or to break the bonds of codependency. It really does. Membership in the 12-step village overlaps; there are sex addicts in AA meetings, overeaters in Al-Anon, pure schizophrenics in the hallowed halls of the neighborhood Alano Club. In recovery, it takes all kinds.

This is the story about a man we called Special Ed. Not to his face, because that would have been cruel. I guess it was cruel anyway, but we never said we were…

It would be a product of false pride to claim that A.A. is a cure-all,

even for alcoholism.

For Today --

We sometimes hurt those we love because they need to be

"taught a lesson," when we really want to punish.

evil temper—

For embittering life, for breaking up communities,

for destroying the most sacred relationships, for

devastating homes, for withering up men and women,

for taking the bloom of childhood, in short, for sheer

gratuitous misery-producing power this influence

stands alone.

Sniffing out the hypocrites

The alcoholics in recovery are always a little leery of Ala-non. Being self-centered, they think the Ala-nons are talking constantly about them, their evil ways.

Men make up the majority in AA and Alanon is just the opposite. Ala-nons usually spend their first few meetings complaining about their “qualifiers”, before they start taking a good hard look at themselves, their own behaviors, their anger.

The “double winners,” members of both programs, may feel a little flash of…

Thank you all for the wonderful “Get Wells” and Welcome Homes”.

For Today –

Tradition Two, like all the A.A. Traditions, is the voice of experience,

based upon the trials of thousands of groups in our pioneering time.

The main principles of Tradition Two are crystal clear: the A.A. groups

are to be the final authority; their leaders are to be entrusted with

delegated responsibilities…

Ron: Cool guy, hot head

Rotten Ron was a man of strong opinions and violent emotions, though he always tried to play it cool. At the close of meetings he would saunter over to the nearest newcomer, toothpick in his mouth. “Well, kid. How many meetings did the judge give ya?” was his usual refrain. Just a casual question to start off a little post-AA chat.

The easygoing “how ya doin’ " approach works a lot better than the preacher approach.

(California judges often send…

For Today --

Being still inexperienced and having just made conscious contact with God,

it is not probable that we are going to be inspired at all times. We might pay

for this presumption in all sorts of absurd actions and ideas. Nevertheless,

we find that our thinking will, as time passes, be more and more on the

plane of inspiration. We come to rely upon it.

For Today --

Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear.

When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them. We discuss

them with someone immediately and make amends quickly if we have

harmed anyone. Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we

can help. Love and tolerance of others is our code.

Recovery Quotes / 12 Stepology@facebook / 12 Stepology

For Today --

The price we paid for using alcohol and other drugs was our freedom.  We

finally realized that it costs too much to feel oblivious. The price became

so high that we could no longer barter with mood-altering chemicals for

our time and freedom. The chemicals had absolute control.

Unless we wake up and pay the price for freedom -- which is spiritual

growth -- we will be…

For Today –

A.A. experience has taught us we cannot live alone with our pressing

problems and the character defects which cause or aggravate them.

If Step Four has revealed in stark relief those experiences we'd rather

not remember, then the need to quit living by ourselves with those

tormenting ghosts of yesterday gets more urgent than ever. We…

Recovery Quotes / 12 Stepology@facebook / 12 Stepology

For Today –

We usually conclude the period of meditation with a prayer that we be

shown all through the day what our next step is to be, that we be given

whatever we need to take care of such problems. We ask especially for

freedom from self-will, and are careful to make no request for ourselves

only. We may ask for ourselves, however, if others will be helped. We…

For Today –

Logic is great stuff. We liked it. We still like it. It is not by chance we were

given the power to reason, to examine the evidence of  our senses, and

to draw conclusions.  That is one of man's magnificent attributes. We

agnostically inclined would not feel satisfied with a proposal which does

not lend itself to reasonable approach and interpretation. Hence we are

at pains to tell why we think our present…

For Today –

Ask Him in your morning meditation what you can do each day

for the man who is still sick. The answers will come, if your own

house is in order. But obviously you cannot transmit something

you haven't got. See to it that your relationship with Him is right,

and great events will come to pass for you and countless others.

This is the Great Fact for…

For Today –

If we ask, God will certainly forgive our derelictions. But in no case

does He render us white as snow and keep us that way without our

cooperation. That is something we are supposed to be willing to

work toward ourselves. He asks only that we try as best we know

how to make progress in the building of character.
