The main thing is that he be willing to believe in a Power greater than

himself and that he live by spiritual principles.

Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.

Those who do not recover are people who cannot or will not completely

give themselves to this simple program, usually men and women who are

constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves.

We have a disease: progressive, incurable and fatal.

One way or another we went out and bought our destruction

on the time payment plan! All of us, from the junkie snatching

purses to the sweet little old lady hitting two or three doctors

for legal prescriptions, have one thing in common: we seek

our destruction a bag at a time, a few pills at a time, or a…

Often, as we review each day, only the closest scrutiny will reveal what our true

motives were. There are cases where our ancient enemy rationalization has

stepped in and has justified conduct which was really wrong. The temptation

here is to imagine that we had good motives and reasons when we really hadn't.

We "constructively criticized" someone who needed it,…

Further clarification of an A.A. group may be found in Warranty Six,

Twelfth Concept:

• “no penalties to be inflicted for nonconformity to A.A. principles:

• no fees or dues to be levied—voluntary contributions only;

• no member to be expelled from A.A.—membership always to be

the choice of the individual;

• each A.A. group to conduct its internal…

If the man be agnostic or atheist, make it emphatic that

he does not have to agree with your conception of God

He can choose any conception he likes, provided it

makes sense to him.

Learning daily to spot, admit, and correct these flaws is the essence of

character-building and good living. An honest regret for harms done, a

genuine gratitude for blessings received, and a willingness to try for

better things tomorrow will be the permanent assets we seek.

Just For Today

For Today --

But it is from our twisted relations with family, friends, and society at large that

many of us have suffered the most. We have been especially stupid and stubborn

about them. The primary fact that we fail to recognize is our total inability to form

a true partnership with another human being. Our egomania digs two disastrous

pitfalls. Either we insist upon dominating the people…

We had a new Employer. Being all powerful, He provided

what we needed, if we kept close to Him and performed

His work well. Established on such a footing we became

less and less interested in ourselves, our little plans and

designs. More and more we became interested in seeing

what we could contribute to life.

They took inventory all right, but hung on to some of the worst items in stock.

They only thought they had lost their egoism and fear; they only thought they

had humbled themselves. But they had not learned enough of humility,

fearlessness and honesty ………….

If you and your husband find a solution for the pressing problem of drink you

are, of course, going to be very happy. But all problems will not be solved at

once. Seed has started to sprout in a new soil, but growth has only begun. In

spite of your new-found happiness, there will be ups and downs. Many of the

old problems will still be with you. This is as it should be.

The faith and sincerity of both you and your husband will be put to the… Continue

Our liquor was but a symptom. So we had to get down to causes

It all comes down to this: All obsessions are pretty much the same.

The fact that we’re allergic to alcohol isn’t what’s most important.

The important thing is that we have an obsession in our mind,

. . . the principle of amply delegated authority and responsibility

to “trusted servants” must be implicit from the top to the bottom

of our active structure of service. This is the clear implication of

12 Stepology

For Today –

Theirs is the quiet opinion, the sure knowledge and humble example

that resolve a crisis. When sorely perplexed, the group inevitably turns

to them for advice. They become the voice of the group conscience; in

fact, these are the true voice of Alcoholics Anonymous. They do not

drive by mandate; they lead by example. This is the experience…

121 Stepology

For Today –

I was not too well at the time, and was plagued by waves of self-pity

and resentment. This sometimes nearly drove me back to drink, but

I soon found that when all other measures failed, work with another

alcoholic would save the day. Many times I have gone to my old

hospital in despair. On talking to a man there, I would be amazingly

lifted up and set on my…

Inwardly he would give anything to take half a dozen drinks

and get away with them. He will presently try the old game

again, for he isn't happy about his sobriety. He cannot picture

life without alcohol. Some day he will be unable to imagine

life either with alcohol or without it.

Each person is like an actor who wants to run the whole show;

is forever trying to arrange the lights, the ballet, the scenery

and the rest of the players in his own way. If his arrangements

would only stay put, if only people would do as he wished, the

show would be great. Everybody, including himself, would be

pleased. Life would be wonderful.

Recovery Quotes / 12 Steps To Recovery / 12 Stepology

But there was always the curious mental phenomenon that parallel with

our sound reasoning there inevitably ran some insanely trivial excuse for

taking the first drink. Our sound reasoning failed to hold us in check. The

insane idea won out. Next day we would ask ourselves, in all earnestness

and sincerity, how it could have…
